Why is that we fight what we don't know and why the young don't appreciate experience? Yesterday I had an email forwarded to me that made me smile. One of the consultant developers on our team gave advice to another group of consultants we work with that I had to fight to get him to buy into. But after a couple of years of working with moving all the data base level calls to the stored procedures and out of the c# .net code that has to be deployed, I think the value is understood.
It's just interesting how much it takes sometimes to get people to understand.

I missed a year....
Happy New Year!
I guess this is an annual thing for me. And the new year tends to make me reflect on things. Looking at my blog it makes me wonder where the time goes. Last year was a tough one. We lost Rosie, my toy poodle, she lived a great life and passed in October. We really do miss her, it's amazing how a dog becomes so much a part of your life. 2013 was an over all whirl wind personally and professionally. I will do my best to try to keep some of this up this year.

Life in a SQL Server Management Studios - and not saving often enough!
Okay, so it's been awhile since I have posted to this... I am still running and fighting weight. But I wanted to start keeping track of some SQL stuff that I find myself looking for on a regular basis.
Like when your using SQL Server Management Studio and for some reason you lose your session without saving what you spend all day working on..
Don’t panic…
Typically when you re-open SQL Server Management Studio you’re prompted with a nice little screen that politely asks if you would like to recover the selected files or queries. Which is extremely helpful, but what happens when you don’t get that prompt, what then?
Scream a little and the go hunting on your computer to find the files you know it saved. Navigate to (assuming you are running Windows 7)
C:\Users\”[your username goes here]“\AppData\Local\Temp\ and look for files similarly named like ~vs******.sql.

Running, Bag Pipes and other interesting thoughts on a Monday.
I am going to join the Apple iPhone developers network and playing with developing an application. I need to update my Mac Book Air first to Snow Leopard. I ordered the software last night so hopefully will get it this week and start to play with it next week end.
It was a gorgeous weekend. Saturday we did a 5K in Melbourne. I was not happy when I learned that we had to go up the bridge. But in appropriate fashion, they had a BAG PIPER in a KILT at the top, it was pretty funny. Sunday morning we woke up early and ran 5.5 miles thru a bunch of the local neighborhoods. It really was a great feeling - who would have thought that we could complete such a feat?!!?!?! It was a great feeling of success.
We drove my niece back to University of Miami yesterday. It was an wake up call to how amazing I have it now. I don't miss the traffic in the least. Why do people go insane when they live in close confines? They forget standard cortesy and safety.
Well I better get to work.

Life is truly GOOD!
It's a great day to be alive! I really do love this time of year. You sure can't beat how it feels outside these days. Work on the other hand is never ending. Getting ready for a fun weekend with a 5K run and hanging out some friends in Melbourne.

iPhone Addiction...
How did we get to this point? I have been an iPhone adopter since the first version. I am surprised at how addictive they are and that I have been one of the crazy people who wait in line to be one of the first to get the newest phone. Yes, I have been there to pay the fee to get my new phone on first day - crazy and so out of character for me. One of my co-workers phones died on her this morning and there is nothing worse than not having your phone. It makes you realize how dependant we are on the little pieces of technology. Last night, I put it in the other room, turned off the computer and tried to do some stuff around the house. I found myself reaching for it and laughed at myself each time. My thumbs hurt from holding the phone and playing my addictive games (yes I too am a Scrabble and Bejeweled player).
Here is a quote from co-worker "oh god... the life is slowly coming back into my soul... i may be able to go on". How funny is that.
There must be a camp somewhere I can go to free myself from my phone....
Happy Tuesday!
